How to Listen to Music: Hints and Suggestions to Untaught Lovers of the Art

Henry Edward Krehbiel (1854-1923)
How to Listen to Music: Hints and Suggestions to Untaught Lovers of the Art
New York: Scribner’s Sons, 1896

Gold on dark blue cloth.

Another simple design that speaks to the lyrical content of the text. Compare Armstrong’s use of music notes as a complement to the title of this work to the binding design for Sentimental Tommy next door. Armstrong uses a literal design for this nonfiction book of music and a stylized cover for the fictional Sentimental Tommy that provides no context for the content. Which type of binding do you prefer?
