John G. Bogart was an attorney, notary public, and Vice Consul to Russia ("Secular Summary"). In August 1818, he was appointed notary of the Manhattan Bank ("John G. Bogart"). In January 1820 he was elected to the Standing Committee of the New-York Historical Society ("New-York Historical Society"). He was a member of the Society for the Promotion of Useful Arts, the American Antiquary Society, and the National Academy of Design ("Transactions"; Holmes 32; Bogart 17).
Bogart died after he fell from the stairs at the Masonic Hall in New York in December 1828 ("Secular Summary").
