Nathaniel Prime (1/30/1768 - 11/26/1840)

Nathaniel Prime (1768–1840) was a New York broker and banker. He purchased the Nathaniel Prime Mansion in Hell Gate, New York near Yorkville, New York in 1807. The building stood on the block between First Avenue and York Avenue and 89th and 90th streets. John Frazee (sculptor) did a sculpture of Prime. He is buried at Saint Pauls Church Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Westchester County, New York. He was in command of the 17 U. S. contingent and received the personal side arms surrendered by C S N Lt. Read. Prime wrote about the attack and capture in the U.S. government’s Official Records of the War of the Rebellion.
